The “Fuel Consumption Championship” is a special motivation-program for truck-drivers from transport-companies to reduce their fuel consumption. The program is at it’s test-phase with 13 Mercedes-Benz Actros truck-drivers of a transport-company at the moment and has so far been a great success:
In the first year the average fuel consumption of the 13 drivers was reduced from 34,5 liters / 100 km to 32 liters / 100 km. In the second year they only used 31 liters / 100 km and right now they are at about 30 liters / 100 km. If this year goes on like that then the drivers will finally have saved about 69000 liters fuel in three years through this motivation-program.
The “Fuel Consumption Championship” had several positive effects:
1. On the one hand we saved a lot of money for the head of the transport-company we chose for this experiment.
2. Through this we have strengthened the customer-loyalty visibly, as the entrepreneur of the company has already bought 15 new Mercedes-Benz trucks.
3. The drivers who first literally hated driving Mercedes-Benz trucks love to do so now because of the attention and the motivation they gained trough this program. (And the driver is not an unimportant indirect influence for the buying decision.)
4. Through the reduction of fuel consumption we reduced the CO2-emissions of the cars significantly and have therefore made a contribution to the pollution control.
